Interview: Navigating Challenges and Inspiring Change – A Perspective from Inside Ferrexpo

What inspired you to pursue a career in the mining industry, and what drew you to Ferrexpo specifically?

"When I joined Ferrexpo for a summer internship while completing my education, I didn’t know much about metals and mining, but I was immediately drawn in by Ferrexpo’s energy and vision, as well as the scale and impact of the business."

With almost two decades at Ferrexpo, what has kept you engaged about your work here?

"I’ve loved being in an environment where every day brings new learning experiences and challenges that spark creativity, encourage teamwork, and reveal multiple ways to achieve goals. Ferrexpo’s open structure allows for direct interaction with senior leadership, making my work dynamic and impactful—I can see my contributions driving the company’s growth and success."

What part of your work are you most proud of, especially given the current challenges Ukraine is facing?

"I’m most proud of how our team has come together and demonstrated resilience to keep operations running smoothly despite the challenges Ukraine is facing. It’s been incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that is united around shared goals, working to develop new supply chain solutions and secure reliable export routes in such difficult circumstances. Seeing our collective creativity and effort in overcoming obstacles to support our clients has been both inspiring and fulfilling."

Has anyone inspired you during your journey at Ferrexpo?

"My direct manager, Yaroslavna Blonska, has been my mentor and role model throughout the years, guiding me in navigating women’s leadership. Seeing a woman succeed in mining leadership showed me these heights are attainable. I hope my own journey inspires other women to pursue success, fostering diversity, fresh perspectives, and inclusive growth in the industry."

What advice would you give to women looking to advance to leadership positions in the mining industry?

"Stay curious and keep learning—never be afraid to ask questions or challenge the status quo. Build a strong network; connecting with others in the industry can open doors, offer mentorship, and provide valuable insights. Surround yourself with people who inspire and support your growth, and embrace every opportunity to learn."
